PRINCIPLES
There is usage of focal point in his artwork The She - Wolf. he uses the red arrow line to emphasize the body of the wolf. However, the position of the head and tail can appear to be either way. there is however, lots of repetition in his art. he often repeats the colour, shape, texture in his art.
ELEMENT
There is vast usage of lines, and shape as well as texture and colour in his art. he uses lots of different characteristics oflines in his art such as continous, outlines, length, direction and so on. There are shapes that can be geometric, organic, positive, negative, static or dynamic. The texture of his art was mainly hard and rough as he mainly used oil paint for his art. He also used varies shades of colour. He mostly used brighter colours before 1950's, however after that, he switched to darker colour due to depression and alcoholism.

Abstract Expressionism (Art Movement)
BRIEF HISTORY
Originated in late 1940's to early 1960's. Is an American post World War 2 art movement. First to achieve worldwide influence. Made New York City center of the art world. After WW2, it was deemed illogical for artist to paint the same pictures. They began to explore colour and shape and paint entire canvases orange or blue. Initially labelled by German expressionist painters. Only in 1946, it was applied to American art by critic Robert Coates. Works were produced in extremely specific geographical setting and revealed a specific attitude. Result of rivalry between young American artists and European artists that fled to NYC. Combining emotional intensity and self - expressionism of German Expressionist with aesthetic of European abstract schools. The focus of art shifted from product to process. Mainly influenced by Dada and Surrealism (creativity through an unconscious mind). The art movement heavily emphasized on expressing feelings and emotion through its paintings. Two main people of AE were Arshile Gorky and Hans Hoffman.

LAY TECHNIQUE AND ASPECTS
- Action Painting (Jackson Pollock, Willem De Kooning)
Developed in late 1940's to late 1950's. the life energy and psyche of artists were the driving force, resource and meaning of the art. Achieved by dripping or throwing paint at canvas. Highly spontaneous manner, channeling inner impulses on canvas, via automatic or subconscious painting. Subject manner is abstract, scale is huge, all over, and shapeless. Flow beyond canvas. Paintings become irrational, instinctive and impulsive, turned into form and conveying split - second action and motion.
- Colour Field Painting (Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still)
Emerged in early 1960's. Consists of large coloured areas, no signs or forms existed as focal points. Colour used without perspective device, producing sensation of impressive size. Shades of colour diluted so it sinks into canvas. Focused on mood and reflection.. Hard Edge painting desribed geometric abstract worls that emphasized colourful atmospheres and imprecise shapes. Typified by clearly defined outlines, edges, precision and clarity of composition.
TOPIC OF ARTWORK
To express feelings or emotion. Connect with inner impulses and subconscious mind. To not be defined by concepts of composition, space, volume, and depth. In my opinion, to be free and not constricted by anything. not to think, just do. Just to show feelings of oneself on the canvas.

Perceptual Art
![]() |
Meaning:- Art that stimulates the eyes to see things or pictures in different ways. Based on Wikipedia, "perceptual art may be interpreted as the engagement of multi sensory experimental stimuli combined with the multiplicity of the interpretive meanings on the part of the observer. Sometimes, the role of the observer is obscured as members of the public may unwittingly or unknowingly be participants in the creation of the artwork itself."
Examples:- Op art is mainly a form of perceptual art. It is optical illusion art. "Optical art is a method of painting concerning the interaction between illusion and picture plane, between understanding and seeing." – John Lancaster. Op art is art that gives a viewer an impression of movement, hidden images, flashing, vibrations, pattern or warping.
- Bridget Riley (1961) – Movement of Squares
- Victor Vasarely (1965) – Optical Illusion.
- Richard Anuszkiewicz (1965) – Intrinsic Harmony.
- John McHale
- Reginald H. Neal

Basically, perceptual art is different from conceptual art as it stimulates the eyes of the observer. These artworks can cause the observer to see things moving, flashing, fading in and out, or even see things that are not meant to be seen. So when an observer sees a perceptual artwork, one person might not see the same thing that another person sees. In that sense, the observer becomes part of the artwork. Optical illusion art is fun to see because it's like a puzzle and you have to try your best to find all the hidden clues in the picture to see what the artist saw.

Conceptual Art
Meaning:- Art where the concept or ideas in the work is more important than the outcome. "In conceptual art, the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art." – Sol LeWitt.
| Lawrence Weiner. Bits & Pieces Put Together to Present a Semblance of a Whole, The Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, 2005. |
Examples:-
- Robert Rauschenberg – Erased de Kooning Drawing by Willem De Kooning (1953)
- Yves Klein – Aerostatic Sculpture (Paris 1957), 1001 blue balloons released into the sky.
- Christo's Iron Curtain work (1962), consists of a barricade of oil barrels in a narrow Paris street which caused a traffic jam. The artwork was the large traffic jam.
- Joseph Kosuth – One and Three Chairs (1965), picture above, consists of a chair, its photo and a blow up of a definition of the word 'chair'. Kosuth had chosen the definition from a dictionary, 4 versions with different definitions are known.

Basically, conceptual art requires doing research and some serious thinking and planning on how to create the artwork and what each stroke would represent. A person that's viewing a conceptual art will be stimulated in the brain to think about the meaning of the artwork. To truly appreciate the artwork, a person must be able to see past the picture into its deeper meaning. Even an empty canvas can provide a deeper meaning to someone that another person might not be able to comprehend.

My aspirations are:-
- Firstly, to finish my mass comm degree with a major in media studies.
- Secondly, get a job hopefully at a network company, writing scripts or doing journalism.
- Thirdly, finish my novel.
- But most important of all, get out of my father's hair cos i'm not sure if he can put up with me for any while longer. I'm what he would call a thorn in his side and he in mine. HAHAHAHA.
- Earn a reasonable income so that I can live a comfortable life, buy as many story books as I want (maybe even buy a bookstore) and take care of my family when the time comes.
So this is a little info about myself. i hope this has peaked your interest into following my blog. Once I figure out how to use this blog properly, I will definitely post videos and maybe songs if possible. Until then, CHIOZ!!!!!
